Want to deepen your knowledge about data spaces? We have gathered relevant documents for you to both test your existing knowledge on data spaces and further expand upon your current knowledge. If any of the topics is hard to grasp upon, the basic overview might provide more clarity. Bear in mind that these documents are meant to be general. If you are looking for resources on specific data space related topics, please take a look at the topic section of this knowledge base.

International Data Spaces Association (IDSA)

A glossary that describes the technical concepts of data spaces. This glossary can help you if you encounter a term you are not yet familiar with in the other resources listed in the knowledge base.

Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC)

The building blocks identified by the Data Space Support Centre are displayed to create an overview of the organizational and technical building blocks in a data space.

For beginners, it is mainly important to understand the overarching categories (Business, Governance, Legal, Data Interoperability, Data Sovereignty & Trust, Data Value Creation).

eOppiva

This quiz is an entry into the European data economy: an area of the economy where the collection and use of data play a central role. Thereby, it indirectly points towards the need for data spaces from a legal, European perspective. It explains more about the data markets act and data services act as well as the role digital giants and how Europe should be competing against them.

TNO

This Dutch webinar elaborates on what a data space is. First, it explains the need for data spaces using the different legal measures from the European Commission, and quickly dives deeper into the world of data spaces from a technological perspective. The asset administration shell is explained in context of data spaces to show how data can be transferred between parties with the use of a connector. Finally, the role of the Centre of Excellence for Data Sharing and Cloud is clarified for a Dutch context.

iShare

The iShare Cookbook for Data Spaces (Dutch) is designed to explain data spaces in a simple way, without using technical language. It focuses on practical applications that are relevant today. It guides you in understanding the concept behind data spaces, the essential components for their functionality, and, most importantly, how to create them. This guide is invented to help you design and set up functional data spaces that give data owners control over their own data. It builds upon the OpenDEI building blocks (outdated, now the DSSC building blocks), but is nevertheless relevant for creating a more practical view on the practical side of data spaces.

International Data Spaces Association (IDSA)

The International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) has created a knowledge base, expanding on the actual building of data spaces. It elaborates on the IDS reference architecture model, showing a more technical perspective on data spaces. Elaborating on topics such as a sovereign data exchange, certification and governance, they also published a rulebook on guidelines for functionality, implementation, data services and legal basis in compliance.

CoE-DSC

This report explores the impact of the eIDAS revision (eIDAS2)1 and the evolving EU Digital Identity landscape on data spaces. It emphasises the critical role of digital identity as a fundamental building block for data spaces, analysing how eIDAS regulations, both current and revised, offer opportunities for enhancing digital identity procedures in data spaces.

CoE-DSC

We demonstrate the ability to expand cloud compute resources by using third-party resources in a trusted and transparent way by applying the Gaia-X Framework. This targets to eliminate mitigates vendor lock-ins for businesses acquiring cloud services and infrastructure resources.
