CoE-DSC/TNO/BIT-team wins second place at Gaia-X Hackathon 2025

The Market-X + Tech-X & Hackathon #8 took place on May 13th and 14th, 2025, in Valencia, Spain. After two days of intense collaboration, innovation, and technical problem-solving, the CoE-DSC/TNO/BIT-team won the second place! Giulia Biagioni, Inés Martinez, Alex Montoya, and Ioannis Tolios, along with partners from BIT, presented ‘Extending the Gaia-X Digital Clearing House Streamlined through automated certification’.

Their solution demonstrated how an organization’s compliance can be automatically checked against a chosen standard (e.g., ISO 27001) using Software Bill of Materials (SBOM), Gaia-X best practices, and reference architecture for digital verification of claims. When non-conformities are detected, an LLM agent-based system interprets information on Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) found in publicly accessible databases.

The LLM agent-based framework explains the CVE violations in a user-accessible way and provides a step-by-step remediation plan, ensuring that no sensitive data is shared with the agent-based system. Next to this, the team created a new semantic-driven conceptualization to represent temporary certifications and validate the conformity of verifiable credentials using SHACL shapes.

The provided solution proved to be of help for small and medium companies to accelerate their entrance to marketplaces. Moreover, the prototype is conceptually aligned with the Gaia-X Digital Clearing House, probing their role as trust anchors in an ecosystem.

Federated solutions the only way to digital independence

Strong contributions and a substantive panel discussion characterised the CoE-DSC Strategy Meeting ‘Steering for cloud sovereignty’ on 18 June in The Hague, all grounded in concrete, action-oriented perspectives. Only by connecting public and private parties, and aligning supply and demand, we can achieve federated solutions that give organisations greater control and reduce digital dependence.

Looking Back at a succesfull Gaia-X Tech-X & Hackathon 2026 in Athens

At the Gaia-X Tech-X & Hackathon #9 in Athens, CoE-DSC and TNO played a prominent role in advancing trusted data sharing and interoperability within the European digital ecosystem. A major highlight was the CoE-DSC/TNO team winning the first prize at the hackathon, achieved with an AI-powered solution that enhances trusted collaboration between digital services. The event also showcased important progress in trust and compliance frameworks that support the future development of interoperable European data spaces.
