The DPP Playground is our open testing and experimentation environment for Digital Product Passport (DPP) software, systems and broader traceability solutions. Its focus is on the building blocks that make up a DPP system and how these align with European DPP standards and other reference architectures. The DPP Playground also demonstrates practical use cases that make use of these building blocks and standards.
Who is it for?
The DPP Playground is intended for organisations that are preparing for DPPs and would like to understand the technical implications. It is also relevant for developers and architects who want to compare European DPP standards with working software, as well as organisations wishing to test their own technologies within an operational DPP environment.
Use cases
The DPP Playground currently includes two use cases: the Plant Passport and Clean Fuel Contracts.
The Plant Passport is a digital version of the mandatory EU plant passport. A batch of tomato plants moves through the supply chain from grower to trader, with each party issuing its own digitally signed passport. Regulatory authorities can trace the chain back to the grower, while the underlying data remains invisible to other parties.
The Clean Fuel Contracts use case focuses on sustainability claims for batches of biofuel. Each claim, from farmer to fuel supplier, is digitally signed by the party responsible for substantiating it.
