Europe aims to reduce its dependence on foreign technology, but achieving digital autonomy requires more than policies and regulations. It also requires a strong understanding of how technologies such as software, AI, cloud, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure work, where dependencies arise and which alternatives are available. Computer science provides this foundation, covering fields including software engineering, cryptography, cybersecurity, privacy and data science.
During this Nieuwspoort session, university researchers and industry partners will demonstrate how computer science can help governments and organisations strengthen the digital resilience and strategic autonomy of the Netherlands and Europe. The key message is that continued investment in computer science is essential to turn digital autonomy from a political ambition into an achievable reality.
